This article, the first of two parts, traces the main elements of the “systemic crisis” which the European Church is going through, finding a root in the phenomenon of clericalism. The article investigates the origins and the process of consolidation of clericalism up until the turning point of the Second Vatican Council. The article then evokes the ecclesiological renewal which the Council has ratified and favored, especially regarding ordained ministry, showing the contextual persistence of problematic elements which have left the necessary process of transformation unfinished. Concerning this position which is torn between the affirmation of a synodal viewpoint on the one hand and the permanence of sacred registers on the other, the second apart of the article will provide the positive perspectives, thus building on the historical and diagnostic data provided in the first.
Luca Castiglioni

The article presents an analytical study concerning the thought elaborated by Léon Bourgeois (1851-1925), the French politician and thinker. His study, centered on the category of solidarity, has long been ignored by Christian solidarist thought, but presents elements of interest. The article is organized in three fundamental parts: the urgency of a critical re-elaboration of the category of solidarity starting from today’s context becomes immediately apparent; secondly, the history of the term “solidarity” in European social thinking and in the Social Doctrine of the Church is concisely introduced; in conclusion, we arrive at some systematic considerations regarding the Author’s thought.
Stefano Cucchetti

https://www.lascuolacattolica.it/ojs/index.php/lsc/article/view/2045

The number of people who live outside of marriage or in a stable relationship, and who do not choose celibacy as a form of consecration, is increasing. The existential reasons at the basis of the diversified identity of being single are many. This article came into being thanks to the conviction that theology has to also reflect on the existential conditions of these people. Having examined some data and sociological considerations regarding the reasons behind the increase in the conditions of life in solitude (singleness) in globalized society, we will undertake a theological reflection, focusing our attention in particular on the baptized who, for reasons outwith their control, have not been able to marry and who do not feel called to express their belonging to the Lord in different ways from the baptism they have received.
Manuel Valenzisi

https://www.lascuolacattolica.it/ojs/index.php/lsc/article/view/2046

The sacrament of Penance has been mainly studied in a theologically systematic and canonistic perspective with particular reference to the teachings of the Council of Trent and the successive clarifications regarding its ecclesiological implications. More recently the theme has been of interest to liturgical studies, highlighting the need for the sacrament to be understood in its ritual aspects. Until now moral theology has been involved almost exclusively regarding the theme and definition of sin in its anthropological and theological qualities. Instead the moral significance of the act of confession has been studied little as an act of the believer who is freed from his sin by declaring it before God and the Church. The present study would like to solicit a deeper study of this theme, underlining the implications already present in the magisterial teaching of the Church.
Egidio Giuliani
