No description of the figure of Ambrose of Milan would be complete without considering his awareness of the primacy of Grace, which he experienced in a singular fashion in his baptism and episcopal election, lived out in the entire course of his ministry, gave witness to with passion in every page of his writings, and in the way he lived out his daily existence. The figure of sanctity which thus emerges, far from indulging in that of the “heroic” model, favors rather the “mystical” type, anointed by Grace.
