Abstract

The study reviews some of the characteristics of contemporary theology, namely the progressive approach of the critical reflection of the faith to the  phenomenon of holiness. After a brief description of the situation of the studies and of the statute of the theology in recent centuries, starting from the analysis of an historical study – the work «Theology and sanctity» of H.U. von Balthasar – the study indicates some great guidelines in which the contemporary reflection is moving now. Here rise some imperatives that can be considered assured: the need to place the theological act in a context «devotional»; the acquisition of a concept of reason that does not contradict the experience of faith, well aware of his richness, but also of its limits; the elaboration of a theology which takes always as its point of reference the Christian experience; the need to preserve the side objective and subjective of faith in a mutual link.
