Abstract

Giovanni Colombo (1902-1992), archbishop of Milan from 1963 to 1979, was also appreciated professor of spiritual theology in seminaries of the Ambrosian Diocese for 25 years, from 1938 to 1963. This article analyzes his manuscripts and his publications to identify the fundamental elements of his method and the main content of his studies and his teaching. What emerges is a prominent figure in the context of spiritual theology of the twentieth century and a close and fruitful relationship between his academic activity,
the educational roles that he has covered and the episcopal ministry that he has exercised.
