Abstract

As fruit of prophetic visions, the «private revelation» of the prophets of Fatima is not reducible to «immediate messages» communicated to them by Our Lady. The contents of their visions are the contemporary result of a primary communication of the Spirit and of a subsequent human mediation of these contents by the children. Our Lady was the maternal instrument employed by the Spirit to conform the three children to Christ and to communicate, through them, a Christocentric message to the Church: only in the «yes» spoken to Christ «from the heart», as Mary spoke it, is there salvation. However, the Spirit also stimulated differing personal modalities according to which each of the three prophets became a reflected image of Christ: the generous imitation of Christ, the Suffering Servant, abandoned on the cross – Jacinta –; the contemplative imitation of the «hidden» and silent Christ – Francesco –; and the persevering imitation of Christ, obedient «to the end» – Lucia.
