Quale libertà religiosa?
Nella alternativa tra laïcité e religious freedom
Abstract
The perspective of sociology investigates the religious freedom in its concrete shaping a social reality. This is the purpose of this article, that focuses its attention on social western models, identifying an alternative between the model of the “laïcité” and the “religious freedom” one. The first is characterized by a clear distinction between the political power, which is responsible for the exclusivity of the common good, and the contribution of religion. The second scheme, descending from modernity too, points out a distinction within the “saeculum” between political and religious institutions, as entities that both contribute to the construction of the common good in a model of polyarchy. The analysis of this alternative helps to break the ideological attitude that seems to have covered the western proclamation of laicism.
