Abstract

Following the outline of the Veni, creator Spiritus, the present enquiry shows that the most appropriate interpretation of the «imaginative visions» of Jacinta, Francisco and Lucia, with their prophetic and apocalyptic character, is a hermeneutic that is eminently pneumatological. The latter is able to give a theological account for the datum of the Catholic faith that the visions of the three prophets were not only, as the Church recognizes, caused by God in a supernatural manner, but especially that their «hidden» but real protagonist was the Holy Spirit, as in the analogous case of Bible prophecies. It was the Spirit who was the «hidden» visitor of the three prophets, their «luminous» helper, who bestowed on them their charism and who instilled the new covenant in their hearts and in the hearts of those for whom the «spiritual» message of Fatima is intended.
