Abstract

From a careful analysis above all of two visions experienced by Jacinta, Francisco and Lucia of Fatima in 1917, this article develops some avenues of research on Christian eschatology. Being a «prophecy of threat», the vision of Hell on July 13 is not a realistic description of the damned who would at that moment presumably have already been suffering eternal punishment. Rather, it is a powerful exhortation to sinners to convert, so as to avoid the pains of Hell. In the complex vision of October 13, the three child prophets, here too under the inner impulse given by the Holy Spirit, perceived the personal and salvific presence of the Blessed Virgin Assumed, of the Lord Jesus and also of Saint Joseph, who – salvo meliore iudicio of the Magisterium – already shares the risen condition with many other Saints.
