Abstract

The history of theology contains a speculative richness which continues to merit renewed attention: the concept of enhypostasis is an excellent example of this. This intuition wishes to deduce the way in which Jesus the man exists as God’s revelation, the incarnate Word. In the area of christological studies, the term’s vicissitudes denote both dependence and protrusion in relation to the context in which it was coined and the people by whom it was employed. The modern discussion on the classical Chalcedonian arrangement
within which the term was formed gives new life to the underlying idea under examination. The idea is here re-evaluated, putting in order not only the ancient and modern lexes but also the trinitarian and christological registers in which it can be operated.
