Abstract

The article offers a synthetic presentation of the literary and theological structure of the book of Revelation, based on the most convincing interpretations to date. The first part of the book (1:4-3:22) consists of the seven letters to the Churches of Asia Minor. By means of these messages from the Risen Lord, Christian sinners are urged to convert. The prophetic visions of the second part (4:1-22:5) then help the persecuted faithful to practise spiritual discernment about history, revivifying their hope in God’s saving action.
