La crismazione in Of Water and the Spirit di Alexander Schmemann

Abstract

This contribution considers the reflection on chrismation as proposed by Alexander Schmemann in his volume Of Water and the Spirit, significant book of contemporary Orthodox baptismal theology. Having focused first on Schmemann’s line of thought the article then takes the thesis on chrismation as «sacrament of universal priesthood» and compares it to some perspectives as offered by N. Afanassieff and P. Evdokimov, as well as with analogous considerations as proposed in Catholic circles, in particular by Y. Congar.
