Abstract

The present study in biblical theology traces the principal modalities of the vigorous and enduring activity of the Holy Spirit in the early Church, on the basis of Luke’s attestation in faith as we find it in the pages of the Acts of the Apostles. There we see specially miraculous signs, inspired words subsequently transmitted through the New Testament texts and manifold prompts to believers to live an ever wider universal mission with joyful and resolute zeal. Once the modalities by which the Spirit fosters the growth of the early Church are identified in the canonical text of the Acts of the Apostles, the way is open for theological reflection to recognize the constants of the still creative action of the Spirit in the various historical epochs. In this manner, biblical foundations are laid towards elaborating a theology of salvation history rooted in pneumatology.
