Abstract

This article focuses on the degree of the ordained ministry of priests, and first considers critically some languages traditionally linked to the task of presiding over the Eucharist. The article goes on to put in issue the relationship between this task and the total exercise of the ministry. In this regard, the author puts forward a hypothesis: the task of presiding over the Eucharist, far from exhausting the exercise of the priestly ministry, is the time to recap and synthesis. Presiding over the gesture in which the Christian community finds its “ form”, the priest is also the one who presides over the various aspects of community life, worrying that they may bear the imprint – the “ form” – of the love of Christ that the Eucharist makes present.
