Abstract

This article proposes an investigation into the relationship between technol-ogy and the human body. The first part deals with questions regarding scien-tific knowledge, its interaction with the cultural world and with other types of knowledge. Further on, the basic traits of the philosophical approach to the body are outlined; identifying in the corporeal self the synthetic vision towards the argument at hand, and in the interaction between the descrip-tion of the body in itself and the scientific reading of the biological data the possibility of an integrated consideration of the specificity of the two per-spectives (philosophical and scientific). In conclusion, in the third part, the proper criteria for the elaboration of a practical rationality are identified in self-awareness, in liberty and in sociability, criteria which enable the tack-ling of the problems which arise from the hybridization and the technological increase of the corporeal potential.
