Abstract

In the moral doctrine of the Catholic Church, intrinsically evil acts (intrinsece malum) are defined as such on the basis of their object alone, irrespective of the intentions of the acting agent and of the circumstances of the acts. Instead, with reference to a symbolic theory of actions, the article intends to demonstrate how the objectivity of intrinsically evil acts necessarily implies the consideration of the intentionality of the acting subject and of the circumstances of the action.
