La misericordia nei profeti
Abstract
This contribution takes its inspiration from the authoritative indications offered by Pope Francis in the Bull of Indiction for the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy (Misericordiæ Vultus). In this document the Pope, as well as reiterating the absolute central role of this theme for the Christian faith and recognising the “historical necessity” for the Church of our times to rediscover such a central role, restates how “As we can see in Sacred Scripture, mercy is a keyword that indicates God’s action towards us.” It is the desire of this article to present a modest but pertinent contribution to the renewed discovery of such a decisive subject, placing particular attention on the prophetic preaching and its language. Some significant elements of such language are thus placed under examination in the attempt to demonstrate the multifaceted articulations of the theme and its objective relevance within the framework of Revelation: to the eyes of the prophets, all that which God states and realises is solely aimed at re-establishing the covenant relationship with his people, a relationship which sin seems to have irreparably damaged.
