Abstract

The article begins by recognizing the foundation of the christians’ sexual action on the spousal love of Christ. In correspondence of the essential traits of the love given by the Spirit of Christ to men and women, the article indicates the demands of totality, fecundity, fidelity and indissolubility of christians’ sexual love. Based on these requirements we deduce sexual action guidelines, summarized in a sort of four-leaf clover of sexual morality: «live for the other, with the totality of themselves, in the surrounding environment, in
the course of history». The implementation of these guidelines is possible on the basis of the virtue of spousal charity and of his declination in the virtues of chastity (sexual temperance), justice, fortitude and prudence. The fourleaf clover of sexual morality is the general criterion overseeing the discernment and directing judgment in the innumerable and varied circumstances of sexual action.
