Beyond Humanae Vitae

Abstract

Putting to good use a renewed interpretation of the doctrine of intrinsically evil acts (intrinsece malum), deriving from a symbolic conception of human action, this article reconsiders the traditional moral judgment on artificial contraception with a view to an adequately responsible procreation. The proposal is then elaborated in critical dialogue with the Church teaching and the theological research carried out at the publication of the controversial encyclical of Paul VI, Humanae vitae.
