This article explores the importance of mountains within the biblical theology. For this purpose it considers the anthropological relevance of the «mountain experience», to reflects then upon the mountain as «theological place», that is characterized by a distinctive relationship with the God of Israel and his revelation. In a third moment the article focuses on the Sinai, «the mountain
» par excellence in the israelite tradition, where the God of the Exodus introduced himself as the «God always present» and entered into an alliance with his people.
